2023 Heart of Texas Championship September 8th-9th
Pecan Valley Golf Course Fort Worth, TX
The Lady Mustangs made us proud in one of the toughest tournament fields for the entire season. The twenty eight best high school girls golf programs from all over the state joined together in Fort Worth for the first invitational tournament of the year.
Conditions were tough, with both days high temperatures well over 100 degrees. The tournament director made the difficult decision to shorten the tournament from three rounds to two due to the heat. What is usually 54 holes (36 on Friday, 18 on Saturday), was altered to 18 holes each day.
Leading the charge was Junior Arwen Settipalli, with an impressive one over par round of 73 on Friday consisting of three birdies on 11, 13, and 15. Saturday proved slightly tougher for Arwen but she still shined at five over for a round of 77.
Junior Claire Cagle battled both days for a respectable 85, 86. Junior Allie Sherman’s debut at her first travel tournament saw a three stroke improvement from 95 to 92 from rounds 1 to 2. Rounding out the team, Sophomores Elika Lee and Sydney Marrs worked hard both days. Sydney improved 12 strokes in 24 hours to shoot 89 Saturday.
The Lady Mustangs are excited for our season ahead. While our team is still young, it is strong and well respected. We are looking forward to the Swing for the Cure tournament later this month in San Antonio!
Congrats to Lydia Howard
Congratulations to our Senior Lydia Howard on signing her letter of intent to continue her education and playing career at University of Texas at Tyler!!

Something our events do not do enough of, so props to Coach Poncho for pulling it off! The format made the day very competitive and the matches came down to the wire!
