Congratulations to our Senior Lydia Howard on signing her letter of intent to continue her education and playing career at University of Texas at Tyler!!
3rd at the Regional Preview!
December 9-10 the Lady Mustangs competed in the Clear Lake Regional Preview at Eagle Pointe Golf Club. A look at what the postseason could look like come April! The Mustangs mounted a huge comeback on day two, shooting 19 shots better than day one, earning them a 3rd place finish as a team! The golf course was set up difficult with tucked pins and firm greens. Only a bit windy in the afternoon parts of each round. Lydia Howard led the way with rounds of 80-78, finishing in a tie for 7th place. Not far behind her was sophomore Grace Wu with 81-78 in 9th place. Claire Cagle shot 93-91, Arwen Settipalli 93-84, and Elika Lee 98-88. Next up for the Lady Mustangs is the Vern Edwards Memorial Tournament at The Woodlands Country Club, January 16-17. Win The Day!
Match Play at Grand Oaks
The Lady Mustangs got the chance to play in a very unique event hosted by Coach Poncho from Grand Oaks High School. Cypresswood Traditions course was in great shape as the girls played 9 holes in the morning for seeding, then got to go head to head with Grand Oaks in a 18 hole team match. Something our events do not do enough of, so props to Coach Poncho for pulling it off! The format made the day very competitive and the matches came down to the wire! The Lady Mustangs ended up edging out the Grizzlies 3 to 2 with three matches coming down to the last two holes! Adison Mathes W 7&5, Gabby W 3&2, Peyton L 7&5, Claire L 1 down, and Kaitlyn W 1 up. Really fun event and the golf was great as well!
JV Girls Cap off Fall Season
The JV Ladies competed in the Oak Ridge Invitational on November 15th out at Augusta Pines Golf Club. Sydney Marrs (87), Allie Sherman (99), Caroline Wolfe (100), Zoe Lai (104), Susie Ward (113), and Samantha Mayhew (117) took home 5th place out of the 11 teams that competed! Sydney Marrs career low round of 87 earned her 3rd place individually! This event rounds out the JV Girls fall season with their first spring event being on January 12 in Crosby, TX.
Top 10 in Texarkana
The team of Lydia Howard (76-79), Grace Wu (79-82), Claire Cagle (89-92), Arwen Settipalli (94-89), and Kaitlyn Stoehr (102-102) took a long road trip up the pristine Texarkana Country Club, November 11-12. The golf course proved to be a very challenging test for the Lady Tiger Classic 12-team field. With steady rain and chilly temperatures the girls fought hard both days finishing with team scores of 338-342, earning them 8th place overall! Lydia Howard lead the team and finished in a tie for sixth place!
32 Shot Improvement in Deer Park!
On November 4-5, the Lady Mustangs traveled over to Battleground Golf Course to compete in the Deer Park Invitational! The team of Claire Rouse (96-81), Elika Lee (98-92), Peyton Muecke (96-93), Adison Mathes (96-89), and Gabby Figliola (100-92) shot team scores of 386 - 354. The 32-shot improvement on day 2 earned them 12th place out of the 18 team field!! Nice work ladies!!
2022-2023 Season is Underway!
The Lady Mustangs started off the 2022-2023 season up in Fort Worth for the Heart of Texas Championship, hosted by Colleyville High School at Pecan Valley Golf Club. Easily one of the strongest fields we will see all season and always an exciting and fun way to start the year. The first two rounds were played Friday, starting at 7:30 AM on the River Course with the second round starting at 1:30 PM on the Hills Course. The Lady mustangs got off to a slow start to the first round, but found their stride towards the end of round 1 and the start of round 2. The first round team score of 347 was led by Lydia Howard’s round of 77, followed by Grace Wu’s 79, Claire Cagle 93, Arwen Settipalli 98, and Kaitlyn Stoehr 101. The second round team score of 323 was a huge step in the right direction for the team. A 24 shot improvement from round one! Lydia fired a one over par round of 73, Grace 80, Claire 84, Arwen 86, and Kaitlyn 97. The 13 hours at the golf course was a grind, but these ladies showed a lot of grit to finish off the day strong! The final round on the Hills Course presented itself with perfect weather and another solid round for the team. Lydia fired another round of 73 finishing in a tie for 16th place for the event! Grace fired a 77, Claire 82, Arwen 90, and Kaitlyn 96. The team total of 992 was good enough to finish 19th in the 29 team field. Next up for the Lady Mustangs is the Swing for the Cure in San Antonio, TX on October 7-8! Win The Day!
2022 District Team Champion and Runner-up
The Mustangs swept the team awards on Tuesday finishing in first and second place as a team. Senior Cathilyn Lee led the team, finishing 2nd individually with rounds of 71 and 72, shooting 143 or -1 for the tournament. Freshman Grace Wu shot 74, 75 finishing 4th, Junior Lydia Howard shot 79, 83 finishing 7th, Senior Meredith Simpson shot 88, 82 finishing T8th and Senior Kinara Thaker shot 86, 85 finishing 10th. Both teams will head to Eagle Pointe for the Regional Championship on April 18th and 19th. Go Mustangs!
